FIGHTING AT PANAMA. HOSTILITIES with COSTA RICA. AMERICA TO INTERVENE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright Received March 6, 5.5 p.m. New York, March 5. News from San Juandelsur (Nicaragua) states that the Costa Ricans, ignoring the League of Nations’ Note reminding Panama and Costa Rica of their obligations as members of the League, have commenced the offensive, and have captured the city of Cuabito and occupied the Almiranto railway. There were many Panaman casualties. A United States naval squadron has been ordered to protect American interests at Panama, arising out of the Panama-Casta Rican hostilities.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn. A HALT DEMANDED. INTERVENTION OF AMERICA. Received March 6, 11.5 p.m. Washington, March 5. Mr. C. E. Hughes (Secretary of State), following a conference with President Harding, Mr. E. Denby (Secretary of the Navy), and Mr. J. W. Weeks (Secretary of War), has issued similar Notes to Costa Rica and Panama, demanding an immediate halt in hostilities, and intimating the intervention of American forces.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.
