The decision affects 100 men. The amount paid out to the watersiders to-day totalled £llOO, as compared with the usual weekly average of £BOOO. POSITION AT AUCKLAND. STEPS TO WORK SHIP FAIL. Auckland, March 4. The request made to the Stevedores’ Association for baskets and shovels to discharge coal from the Cape Premier Was refused. The cA/ptain is endeavoring to purchase the necessary gear, and hopes to get unloading begun on Monday or Tuesday. NO CHANGE AT DUNEDIN. MEN RESENT IDLENESS. Dunedin, Last Night. There is no change in the waterfront position, although there is a noticeable disposition on the part of some watersiders, and also seamen and others on board the idle vessels, to resent the present position of enforced idleness. STOPPAGE AT NAPIER. OWNERS INSTITUTE LOOK-OUT. Napier, Last Night. Upon the refusal of watersiders to engage in overtime on two coastal vessels to-night the shipowners book up a similar attitude to that adopted at other centres, and notified the men that no further labor would be engaged until an assurance was given that the agreement would be adhered to.
