The reply of the Waterside Workers’ federation to the demand for assurances made at Saturday’s conference has not, yet been received and it is feared that a settlement will not be reached this week. Forty-six vessels are now idle at .Wellington, the total tonnage being 1.43,$3l tons. POSITION AT AUCKLAND. MOST OF THE MEN IDLE. Auckland, Last Night. There were no fresh developments on <he Auckland waterfront to-day. A general meeting of watersiders will be held for the purpose of considering lyarious aspects of the dispute. The number of watersiders employed Son the wharves has gradually been de- ■ creasing, until now only about 200 are working daily, out of a total of 1400. Some 200 men have accepted employment elsewhere.
