DIRECT ACTION.
A HOSTILE VOTE. VBRITISH WORKERS’ SANITY,. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Feb. 23. The direct aetiionists had another setback at the Labor Conference on unemployment. An overwhelming decision supported pressing the demands by constitutional action. Mr. dynes denouncfed. the iGovemment’s failure to take adequate measures. If Parliament was unable to solve the problem they were justified in calling on the industrial forces to deal with the situation. Mr. Thomas contended that Parliament was the only body capable of dealing with the problem. Referring to the suggested sympathy strike he said they would help the unemployed more by giving them one day’s pay. Respecting a general strike Mr. Thomas asked if there was any sane trade union official or member of the rank and file who suggested such a remedy. It would increase unemployment and dislocate trade and industry.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
