The annual garden party under the auspices ? of the St. Andrew’s Ladies’ Guild was held in the manse grounds on Tuesday afternoon and proved highly successful in spite of the rough weather conditions. The following had charge of tho various stalls:—Work, Mes’dpmes Petrie, Mackay and Davidson; lollies, Mrs. Richardson and Miss Cramor; cakes and produce. Mrs. Smart and Miss Thompson; flowers, Mrs. Corkill. The afternoon tea department was in charge of Mesdames Ross, McWhirter and Head and Miss Bremmer. Mrs. McCluggage, secretary of the guild, reports that the financial result was satisfactory. The members of the Stratford Bowl irg Club entertained their laly friends at a social held in the pavilion last evening. A good number were present and a most enjoyable time was spent. Mrs. A. Davies won the lady’s prize in the euchre tournament and Mr W. Mc»Donald, the gentleman’s The booby prizes, were won by Mrs. Butcher and .Mr. Hodgins.

The committee of the Stratford Plunket Society are working hard to ensure that Plunk at Day, which is to be held on Saturday, will be a big financial success. The society is badly in need of further funds to enable it to carry on its good work in the interests of the mothers of Stratford, and donations of money and any goads suitable for the sale will be gladly welcomed. Contributions may be left at the shop in Broadway, formerly occupied by Mr. E. G. Foster, between 2.30 and 4.30 on Friday afternoon. Mr. G. W. Wood, the new postmaster at Stratford, has’’ arrived and taken up his duties. Mr. Wood was formerly postmaster at Pahiatua.
