WORLD’S MEAT.
DEMAND OVERTAKES SUPPLY. NEW TASTES IN BRITAIN'. IMPORTED ARTICLE FAVORED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Feb. 24, 9.30 p.m. London, Feb. 23. A remarkable increase in the consumption of imported meat last year is disclosed in Weddel’s review. This is largely attributed to the fact - that the troops acquired the taste in war-time, and now prefer it to home-grown. There was a similar tendency on the Continent. The review adds that statistics indicate that the flocks and herds of the world have not expanded since 1900. The United States and Canada, and even Australia, appear to have reached their exporting limits, and the demand for meat is overtaking the supplies. This, is partly due to the increase in white populations and an improved standard of living.
