The Colonial Office, replying to the request of the Agents-General for the reduction of fruit freights from 8s to 6s per case, state that the ship-owners decline. RE-NAMING COLONIAL OFFICE. London, Feb. 21. In the House of Commons, Mr. Bonar Law, replying to Sir H. Britain, said the Government was considering altering the name of the Colonial Office to make it more in consonance with the wishes of the self-governing sister nations. LAUNCH OF MORETON BAY. London, Feb. 21., Vickers and Co. are launching the Moreton Bay on April 23. The date of her completion is uncertain owing to the ehip-workers’ strike. The shipbuilders expect an early settlement of the strike. OVERSEAS SETTLEMENT. London, Feb. 21. The Colonial Office estimates include £105.000 for overseas settlement and £55,000 for assistance to settlers. AN APPEAL REFUSED. London, Feb. 21. The Privy Council refused to grant special leave to appeal in the case of the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand v. McGuire from the judgment of the High Court of Australia. VERDUN ANNIVERSARY. Paris, Feb. 21. The War . Minister, speaking at the celebration of the fifth anniversary of the Battle of Verdun, said that any concession the French made on the other side of the Rhine would be regarded as a sign of weakness, but the Government was contemplating the possibility of having to show it had not lost its force.
