bookmaker found guilty. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Feb. 19. In the case of William V. Whitta, who appeared in the Supreme Court on four charges of bookmaking, the jury returned a verdict of guilty on all counts. His Honor said as there was a question of law reserved for the Appeal Court he would postpone sentence until the point was decided. In the meantime prisoner would be admitted to bail on his own bond of £5OO and another surety of £5OO. PARLIAMENTARY TOUR. Gisborne, Feb. 19. The Parliamentary party set out this morning on a 250-inile tour of the East Coast. The weather has continued favorable. The visitors proceeded along the main coast road and representatives of the local bodies endeavored to impress the importance of the completion of about 30 miles of metalling to enable motor traffic to be maintained beyond the summer months. The party had luncheon at Tolaga Bay and will proceed to the Hon. Mr. Ngata’s residence at Waiomatatrni to-night. Subsequently they will inspect the extensive developments now taking place in the Northern Waiapu. The party returns to Gisborne on Tuesday.
