“AUTOGRAPH” BECOMES “AUTOMOBILE”. EMBARRASSING POSITION FOLLOWS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Feb. 20, 5.5 p.m. London, Feb. 19. York House has received numerous letters from France asking the Prince of Wales to make the writers* gifts, varying from bicycles to motor cars. It is now revealed that the Prince recently received Carpentier and gare him an autograph, and French in reporting the incident, converted “autograph” into “automobile,” creating a widespread impression in France that the Prince was a multi-millionaire, and ready to be a benefactor to all and sund.y. The writers suggested that as he was able to give Carpentier a motor car he might give them bicycles or other suitable presents.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.
