UNITY OF THE EMPIRE.

THE VIEWS OF EX-SOLDIERS. . NECESSITY FOR COHESION. By Telegraph —Press Associatioh. Wellington, Last Night. The executive of the New Zealand R.S.A. considered on Saturday evening remits for submission to the Empire conference of ex-soldier organisations to be opened at Capetown on February 23. It was decided that New Zealand could not join a body political in nature. The following resolutions were passed regarding objects for the continued existence of the association after the settlement of immediate problems: “For the continued and better defence of the British Empire, and for the making of suggestions for such defence and meeting the cost fairly as between constituent parts of the Empire.” “To urge the vital necessity for the cohesion of the Empire and the absolute unity of each and all constituent parts, as the first plank* in ensuring adequate support of the principle of the League of Nations.” “To hold a moving representation conference on all matters of any concern to returned soldiers.” “To press for granting reciprocal advantages among constituent parts of the Empire.” It was decided that the association was bound to uphold a non-political attitude in all industrial matters. In regard to immigration the meeting decided that the association welcomed the immigration of ex-service men and all nominated immigrants, but opposed unresfricted immigration, as it was of no benefit either to New Zealand or the immigrant.
