DISTRICT NEWS.
DUDLEY ROAD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Sunday last, a very large gathering assembled at the Dudley Road school-ground to witness the unveiling of the obelisk erected by the residents in honor of the local qien who helped to defend the Empire in the Great War. The proceedings commenced by the singing of the well-known hymn, "Jesus, Lover of My Soul,” the Rev. Stanton, of Inglewood, then gave a fine and stirring address, being ably assisted by Captain Elston, of the 'Salvation Army. Mr. I). Egarr, on behalf of those present, requested Colonel Weston, D. 5.0., to unveil the Obelisk. Colonel Weston, in some well chosen words, spoke of the courage and bravery of the men on active service, and, after expressing pleasure at the Obelisk being erected to their honor, unveiled it. The ceremony was concluded by singing the National Anthem. Revs. Perkins and Bensley, (tf Inglewood, sent apologies for toeing absent. The Obelisk is about nine feet high with cement posts and chains round it. There are twenty six names engraved on slabs of New marble. Of these, ten made the supreme sacrifice.
