NORTH TARANAKI SATURDAY’S PLAY. \ In the North Taranaki competitions on Saturday High School defeated New Plymouth North by an innings and 97 runs. Several members of the school team were batting well, and*their total was 174, while North were dismissed in the two innings for 47 and 30 respectively. New Plymouth Soutti defeated Old Boys by 39 on the first innings, the scores being 87—48. — t HIGH SCHOOL v. NEW PLYMOUTH NORTH. The school batted first, making 174 runs, of which Hughes got 44 and Palmer 43. Brown (24), and Hine (20), also made a good showing. Bowling for North S. L. Palmer got two wickets for 8 runs and H. Quickfall got 3 for 36. In their first innings North were all out for 47 (Mason 32) against the bowling of I. Palmer and Hughes. The second strike realised only 30, Hughes taking seven wlickets at the expense of 10 runs, and Brown 2 for 19. Tire margin in favor of the school teacn was an innings 97 runs. SOUTH v. OLD BOYS. At Pukekura Park, New Plymouth South defeated Old Boys 87—48. South batted first, Sheppard (23) and Clarke (16) being the chief scorers. Bottrill took seven of the wickets at the expense of 34 runs. In the Old Boys total only one batsman reached double figures, Bottrill making 10 runs. Inch secured seven wickets for 11 runs. A second strike by South realised 87 (Lash 34). INGLEWOOD V. URENUI A match between Inglewood and Urenul was commenced at Inglewood on Thursday, and when stumps were drawn Inglewood had lost six. wickets for 120. The visitors batted first, and compiled 161 before the last wicket fell. W. Fuller played a very careful bat for 67, and Des Forges (24), Hanagh (16, Coleunan (15 Skelton 12) G. Fuller (11) also made double figures. For Inglewood T. Nicholls (49 not out) was the highest scorer, and others to make double figures were Coutts (23) L. Southerland (12), Burn (11). The match will probably be continued at a future date.
