“GERMANY MUST REFUSE.”
FOREIGN MINISTER ON THE TERMS
QUESTION OF AMERICAN RELATIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright., Received Feb. 17, s 5.5 p.m. Berlin, Feb. 15. After conferring with the Baden Cabinet at Karlsruhe, Herr von Simons (Minister of Foreign Affairs) addressed the Diet. He declared that no German statesman would dare to call on the people to perform forty-two years’ corvee under the Entente conditions, and Germany must therefore refuse to sign such an undertaking. Two important factors in the impending clearing up would be whether Germany was to retain Upper Silesia, and what her relations were with the United States.—Reuter Service.
[Corvee means an obligation to perform certain services for’the feudal lord or sovereign. Herr Simons’ insinuation is obvious.]
