HARBOR BOARD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) February 16. The Harbor Board met on Friday evening. Present: Messrs. J. Hine (chairman), Spurdie, Ogle, and Nosworthy. The New Plymouth Harbor Board wrote asking if the board had a pump and pontoon for sale.—lt was resolved that the punt now idle be offered for £750. The secretary reported that the north wall had again needed further repairs, that the recent heavy rain had caused a further subsidence to the wharf, and that a new dinghy had been ordered at a cost of £lB. GENERAL. At the last senior cadet parade, Lieut. Andrew, V.C., presented Cadet R. Jenkins’ with the gold cup and silver challenge cup won at the recent group meeting. Cadet Jenkins was complimented on being the champion shot. Th» petition for the Saturday halfholiday poll to be taken in April is being largely signed. Mr. Parry (president of the Soldiers' and Civilians’ Club) is in communication with Mr. W. T. Jennings, M.P., asking him to use his best endeavor in arranging for the -Minister of Lands to pay a visit to the club on Wednesday evening. The Waitara Harbor Board lias some trouble in collecting storage accounts from Government departments. The law does not permit wharfage to be charged, but the use of space on wharves or in the sheds is not on the free list, and the Waitara Harbor Board considers it has a right to expect payment when material lies beyond the stipulated twenty-four hours. There was a very heavy “run out with the current in .the Waitara river on Sunday last, and one young fellow swimming* between the. two walls found' himself getting into difficulties and had to call out for help. A Maori named Kaiser -went to the man’s assistance. A boat coirta-ining two men also got into trouble at the mouth of the rives, the “run out” being too strong to pull against. Newton King, Ltd., has returned and taken up his old duties at Messrs. Borthwicks’ office. Mr. A Limmer (‘‘Ben”), of Rotorua, late master of ceremonies of everything in general in Waitara, paid a flying visit last week-end.
