The Act of last session of Parliament, under which a Judge may admit prisoners to probation even though they have had previous convictions, was described by Mr. Justice Stringer in the Auckland Supreme Court recently as a great improvement on the recent law. In the case before him, he said, the prisoner had had an exceedingly creditable record of war service, and he always regarded a creditable war service record as extinguishing previous offences.
