LONDON MARKETS. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S MARKET REPORT. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated February 12, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — "Meat.—Home killed: Prices have declined owing to large supply of chilled beef. Average prices are—Beef, Is sd; mutton. Is 9d; lamb, 2s o%d per lib. Chilled beef: Fores ■ realising Bd, but hinds vary from 10% to Is per lb. New Zealand beef demand reduced for this reason. New Zealand lamb and lightweight mutton in active demand at full prices. Report current that large quantities New Zealand lamb being re-skipped to this country from America, and this is limiting c.i.f. business. Moderate quantity of Dutch pork on market in good demand at Is 4d per lb.
"Butter. —Irish, new made, unsalted, creamery, selling at £l7 10s per cwt. (3s l%d per lb.) ; Irish, ex stores, £l4 per cwt. (2s 6d per lb.). Price of Danish for this country last week was £ll 6s per cwt. (2i per lb.) f.o.b. Government butter, no change in price—£14 18s 8d per cwt. wholesale, and 3s per lb. retail, but some retailers Selling at 2s lOd and 2s lid per lb. "Cheese.—'Market remains unchanged. Canadian is slow—£7 14s to £7 18s per cwt. (Is 4%d to Is 4%d per lb.), white, and £7 18s to £8 per cwt. (approximately Is 5d per lb.) coloured. New Zealand, £7 12s to £7 16s per cwt. (Is 4%d to Is 4%d per lb.) white, and £7 16s to £8 per cwt. (is 4%d to Is 5d per lb.) coloured.
"Hemp.—-Manila market continues dull, prices again lower. "J” grade, February-Ap-ril shipment sold early this week, £4B 10s per ton. December-January to February-Ap-ril shipments now quoted £47 per ton. New Zealand market weak and inactive. Higtpoints, spot, now quoted £5O, fair £4B per ton, with speculative sellers at £2 to £3 less for forward shipments. "Wool.—At Thursday's Government sales at Liverpool 15,5i21 bales Australian and 5219 bales New Zealand offered. Large attendance home trade, and with Continental and American support, competition was keen—7s per cent, offering was cleared,. withdrawals being chiefly scoured and slipe crossbreds and medium and low, greasy pieces. Prices firm at late London sales’ rates for better quality merinos. Crossbreds easier, especially lower qualities. New Zealand greasy, 9%d to Is 2d per lb. "Honey.—Market is dull and depressed. New Zealand, 40s to 75s per cwt. (4%d to 8d per lb.) nominal.”
