ASSAULT WITH RAZOR.
THE CHRISTCHURCH AFFRAY. GUILTY ON REDUCED CHARGE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Feb. 14. Richard Hichen appeared before the Supreme Court’ on a charge of having attempted to murder Raymond Rapley at Addington on January 24. He was alternatively charged with having wounded Rapley with intent to do grievous bodily harm and with having done Jtapley actual bodily harm. He pleaded not guilty to each count. For the Crown, Mr. Donnelly said that Hichen and Mrs. Rapley were struggling at a street corner when Rapley came up. Accused gashed Rapley’s throat. Tlie wound was seven inches long and deep and Rapley nearly died. Evidence is being heard. Christchurch, Last Night. The accused gave evidence that a struggle took place for a razor, in the course of which Rapley received a gash in the throat. The jury, after a retirement of an hour, returned a verdict of not guilty of attempted murder, but guilty of having wounded Rapley with intent to do grievous bodily harm. Sentence was deferred.
