The public debt is now £397,663,000, against which the Commonwealth has assets valued at £41,000,000. STATE ORCHESTRA TO DISBAND. Sydney, Feb. 12. The Government has decided to disband the State Orchestra. Herr Verbruggen states that this will not only be a loss to the musical Community' but a calamity to citizens of culture generally. He has every confidence that there are sufficient enthusiasts in Sydney to keep the orchestra going. Referring to the abandoned New Zealand tour he said the visit was not only inconvenient at this stage, but he doubted whetfier it would be such a sue. cess as if carried out as originally planned.
