PLEA FOR DIVORCE.

UNDEFENDED ACTION. A NEW PLYMOUTH CASE. In the Supreme Court, New Plymouth, yesterday, Mary I. Stanley, of New Plymouth (Mr. C. H. Weston) petitioned for a divorce from her husband, John Herbert Stanley, on the ground of desertion. There was no appearance for respondent. Petitioner said she was married in New Plymouth on June 6, 1908, afterwards living in her mother’s house. Her mother provided all the furniture, and the arrangement was that her husband was to pay so much per week when he got work. Her husband did not support her, however. He never did any work except on odd occasions, when he would give her £1 or so. He could have got work, but never tried. There were three children by the marriage. The evidence was that when Stanley went into camp he tried to get away without making any allotment, butf petitioner consulted her solicitor, and succeeded in obtaining an allowance. Later she went to live with her mother. Respondent returned to New Zealand in December. 191(5, and petitioner met him in New Plymouth He said he would come and see her again, but he did not do so till divorce proceedings were started. The mother of petitioner, Mrs. J. Salter, gave corroborative evidence. His Honor intimated his willingness to grant a decree, but adjourned the case pending the submission of some further evidence by affidavit.
