Plenty of variety is tihe feature of Chautauqua seasons, and the programmes cater both for the entertainment and educational sides of social gatherings. The 1921 season in New Plymouth will open on Monday, and no doubt liberal patronage will be Accorded the function. The opening concert will be given in the afternoon at 2.45 by the Parnells, who are versatile entertainers. A lecture by Miss Sumayeh Attiyeh, tihe brilliant young Syrian, follows, and this speaker discourses interestingly on her life in the Orient and Occident.

The season is spread over six days, and during this time quite a number of interesting lectures and musical artists will be introduced to New Plymouth audiences. Captain N. A. Imrie, of Canada, and Captain Muir Allan, of Scotland, are both forceful speakers, and Mr. Joel W Eastman’s remarks on the “Unfolding of Democracy” disclose a lecturer with new lines of thought, and a masterful power of expression. On the entertainment side tihe Overseas party are credited with the ability to present a programme of musical dash and brilliance, and these young ladies will appear on the fourth day of Chautauqua. Fenwick Newell will be welcomed by ! hose who heard this singer on the last tour. Assisting Mr. Newell ‘this year will be Miss Gertrude Hober, a talented violinist. Their programmes figure on tiie final day k of Chautauqua.
