BUTTER AND CHEESE.
GOOD TARANAKI SEASON. INDICATIONS FOR RECORD. The good season generally which farmers in Taranaki have experienced as regards production ,is reflected in the large quantity of dairy produce received at the Taranaki Producers’ works at Moturoa this season. Up till the end of January the quantity of butter received exceeded that of the corresponding period last season by 33,154 boxes. The quantity of cheese stored during the same period shows a slight decrease, which is accounted for by a number of causes, including the fact that some companies are now manufacturing butter only. With the season now in full and good prospects ahead, the present season's total of dairy produce should show a large increase over that of last year. The butter received at the store up till the end of last' month amounted to 83,436 boxes, compared with the preceding total of 33,154. The quantity of cheese which had been sent to the stores up till. January 31 was 87,011 crates, last season’s tota. for the same period being 91,266 crates. Altered trade conditions account for the diflerence in this branch of the industry. The export value of butter this season is about £7 per box, whereas last year the price was under £5. The value of cheese and butter received at the Taranaki stores as given above can be set down at approximately £1,280,140. FEES FOR GRADING. NEW REGULATIONS.
