CANADIAN CEMENT.

SHIPMENT TO NEW PLYMOUTH. IE SUFFICIENT DEMAND. In the course of his present visit to New Plymouth the Canadian 'Trade Commissioner (Mr. W. A. Beddoe) has been making representations to business men with a view to securing a direct shipment of cargo from Vancouver to New Plymouth, the cargo to be brought being cement and lumber. Addressing a meeting last night the Commissioner referred to this subject, and said that if importers could be found for a certain quantity of cement and timber he would arrange for one of the Canadian ships to come direct from Vancouver to New Plymouth, via Auckland. The vessels, he said, were of about 8,200 tons in size. The oement could be landed cheaper than by transhipment through Auckland, and the proposition was one for the serious consideration of Taranaki importers. The cost of delivery at New Plymouth could be arranged equal to delivery at Auckland, c.i.f., and this should certainly be an inducement. The cement would be free of duty. Enquiries are now being made with a view to guaging requirements. Messrs. Stainton and Co., Ltd., notify that they are arranging for an early direct shipment of Canadian cement providing that sufficient inducement offers. Intending buyers are requested to communicate their requirements to the firm concerned as soon as possible to allow arrangements to be made.
