ECHO OF BOATING DISASTER
CHARGE AGAINST LAUNCH OWNER. By Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright Received Feb. 3, 10.10 p.m. Melbourne, Feb. 3. At the inquest on the victim’s of The Hopkins river disaster, the coroner found Edward Geary, the launch owner, guilty of culpable negligence in navigating and not taking the necessary steps to secure the safety of the passengers. The coroner committed him for trial on a charge of feloniously killing.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. [Eleven persons lost their lives by drowning in the Hopkins river at Warrnambo’ol, as a result of the sinking of a motor-launch. Motet of the victims were local residents. The launch, which was carrying SO people, bound for a pleasure trip, began to leak immediately after starting, and she filled so faist that there was not time to run her ashore, although an attempt was made to do so. She drifted into deep water, but most of the people on board managed to scramble on shore.]
