AUCKLAND POOR BUT HAPPY. ITS HARBOR BEATS SYDNEY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Feb. 3, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, Feb. 3. The Sun newspaper reproduces extracts from the magazine of the. warship Renown, covering the Prince’s visit. The magazine is published by the Australasian Publishing Co., of Melbourne, and is edited by Commander Rogers, but is apparently largely written by Lieu-tenant-Commander Rolleston. The tone of the magazine is extremely frank, and some of the extracts are decidedly racy. Referring to the Auckland visit, the magazine says: “Auckland, one might briefly describe as poor but happy, and very ready to help us to be happy. Wellington was solemn and restrained, and inclined to regard with grave suspicion any attempt on any body’s part to overstep its bounds of propriety to any slightest degree. Christchurch yas afeo poor and happy, but suffering a little from British reserve.” Another extract reads: “One must be honest to be a historian of any sort, and at the risk of giving offence it must be stated that we put Auckland harbor before Sydney for Beauty, if not for utility, and Rio, of course, is immeasurably ahead of both.” The magazine will be on sale in Sydney to-day.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
