CHARGED WITH THEFT By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston North, Feb. 2 A youth named Edward Atkinson was arrested at Palmerston North charged with having unlawfully taken a motor car and stolen a gold watch, the property of A. C. Gallon, Matarawa. JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS. Wellington, Feb. 2. The following statement has been made by the Prime Minister regarding vacancies and pending appointments to the judiciary(Mr. Justice Edwards has resigned office as a Judge of the Supreme Court, and His Excellency Iras been advised to appoint Sir John Salmond, at present temporary Judge, to the vacant seat. Two other vacancies w’ill shortly occur, oi\e by Mr. Justice Chapman attaining the age prescribed by the Judicature Act for retirement, and the other by the resignation of Mr. Justice Cooper, who has informed the Government of his intention in that respect. The appointment to the first of these two vacancies has been offered to and accepted by Mr. J. R. Reed, K.C.
