LESS BRITISH COAL.
FORECAST OF SMALLER OUTPUT. LARGE LOSS TO MINERS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Feb. 2, 8.5 p.m. London, Feb. 1. The Mines Department announces that the prices of coal will be de-eontrolled after March .1. when the instructions that collieries supply specified districts will also be withdrawn. The Daily Telegraph estimates that the output from tine coal mines in February will be a million tons a week less than during December, which will lessen the miners* earning powers to the extent of £1.250,000, apart from a reduction in wages of 2s, as already cabled, which means another £500,000 — an enormous reduction in the spending power of the miners, which will' affect many trades.-—Aus. and N.Z. : Cable Assn.
