CRIME AT OAMARU.
FIRST FOR SOME YEARS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Oamaru, Last Night. The first criminal sittings of the Supreme Court in Oamaru for some years opened to-day before Mr. Justice Sim. Two youths, Arthur Ryder and Leslie Herbert, seamen, who pleaded guilty to wilfully setting fire to an unoccupied cottage, were convicted and released on probation for three years. They were ordered to_ mp,ke reparation at the rate of 15s and 10s a week respectively. Louisa Manley, single, aged 25, pleaded guilty to breaking and entering a residence and stealing goods valued at £43 16s 4d. Sentence was deferred pending the hearing of other charges. Accused was further charged with breaking and entering another house and stealing goods valued at £ll 6s 6d. She pleaded not guilty. It was submitted by the defence that the articles were given as presents. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty. Andrew McCabe pleaded guilty to indecent assault on a girl of twelve. He was ordered to be detained in a reformatory for treatment not "exceeding five years.
