% SCHOOL CRICKET. PALMERSTON v. WAITAKI. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston North, Last Night. A match for the Heathcote Shield began to-day between Waitaki (challengers) and Palmerston North. Palmerston North won the toss and when stumps were drawn Waitaki had failed to dislodge Palmerston. Hodder batted brilliantly and made 117 runs before being dismissed. Law is 95 not out. Leet, who made 104 not out in a competition game on Saturday, was dismissed after compiling 62 with slashing cricket. Hollier, who was stumped for 56, played a stylish game. Waitaki’s bowling is weak, but the fielding is particularly smart. When stumps were drawn Palmerston had lost seven wickets for 416. SOUTH TARANAKI MATCHES. On Saturday Okaiawa beat Kaponga by 119 runs. Okaiawa made 114 (Nieholl 46, Smith 18 not out). Kaponga replied with 57 (Thomas 23, Abbott. 15). Okaiawa declared in tkeir second innings with four wickets down for 81. while Kaponga’s second innings only produced 19. The match played at Manaia between Eltham and Manaia resulted in a win for Manaia by 64 runs on the first innings. Eltham were disposed of for 38 runs. Manaia made 102 runs (Dr. Mauiisel! 58). Eltham, for their second innings, made 70 runs for the loss of four wickets when time was called (Cole 36 not out). Excelsior beat Midlands. Midlands made 56 and 32 to Excelsior’s 82 and 7 for no wickets.
