Lawrence appeared, claimed the sum of £5 6s from T. B. Close (Mr. L. Al. Moss), in respect of an insurance premium and for work done on a fence. After hearing evidence the Alagistrate said ho would non-suit on the claim for insurance, because the increased premium was not stipulated when defendant’s lease was renewed. The other part of tho claim in regard to the fence would also be non-suited as the work had not been carried out according to the agreement. Judgment was given for the plaintiff by default in the claim by P. C. Price (Mr. Spence) v. John Leslie, £1 19s 6d (costs 8s). Land agents’ licences were granted to the following:—C. Lowe, C. Over 150 children and a fair number of adults took part, and the day was spent with games, races, etc. In addition, there were numerous lollie scrambles and an abundance of fruit, nuts, and soft drinks were distributed. The outing was arranged by the superintendent, Air. E. G. Foster, and the catering was under the capable management of Miss Clemow. BROADWAY LEASES. Air. AleVilley, General Alanager of Railways, has informed Air. R. Alasters, M.P., that arrangements for selling the railway leases by auction are being made, and that these will be made public within a few days. As most of the leases expire on Afar.ch 31 next, it is presumed that they will not be renewed again without submitted to auction.
GENERAL. Mr. R. Masters, M.P., has received advice from Mr. D. G. Clark, Commissioner of Taxes, to the effect that he has definitely decided to visit Stratford and that arrangements will be made accordingly. The existing Stratford Post Office han done useful service for so many years that it very easily falls into disrepair, and to-day a few' of the front wooden, steps had to be renewed again. The building is far too small for a town of Stratford’s size and importance, and it is to be hoped that in the interests of the staff, as well as the public, the Public Works Department will expedite the erection of the new post office. The portion of Cordelia Street south, near the suspension bridge, which was recently re-formed, is at present being metalled by the' borough workmen. THE KING’S CINEMA THEATRE. “BLIND HUSBANDS” TO-NIGHT. At the King’s Cinema Theatre, Stratford, to-night the big Universal euperfeature, the most enthralling picture
the art has ever produced, “Blind Husbands” will be screened. This picture was written, directed and acted by Stroheim, who was one of the principal actors in “Hearts of the World.” The picture was staged amongst the Tyrolean Alps, and contains some of the finest scenery that has ever been taken for a dramatic picture. The story concerns a famous American surgeon and his beautiful wife. Professional cares make the scientist pre-occtipied and, ap* parently indifferent to his wife’s happiness. It is a splendid opportunity for a love-bandit to get in his work, an ' opportunity that Lieutenant von Steui ben of the Austrian army could not ! consistently overlook. The Hun houndler of women began his work. He near- | ly broke down the womanly resistance of the beautiful woman. Then occurred the strange incident that makes I “Blind Husbands” supreme in heart in- * terest. Supporting Eric Stroheim is i beautiful Francifia Billington and a i strong cast of Universal players, among j them Sam De Grasse, H. Gibson-Gow-i land, Valerie GermonpreZ and Jack I Perrin. The supporting items to this | big eight-reel feature are: Comedy, Gazette and Educational. The prices are: Dress Circle 2s, Stalls Is 6d (plus tax). The box plan is now open at the i theatre office.
