Two constables were killed and one seriously wounded while asleep in a Belfast hotel. Lord Dunsany* was arrested at Trim, County Meath, for having ammunition in his possession. He was liberated on bail.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn. LOYALIST MURDERED. ■SINN FEINERS’ NEW TRAP Received Jan. 27, 5.5 p.m. London, Jan. 26. John Bradfield, a Protestant farmer, was found executed at Bandon, as it wae alleged he was an anti-Republican. It transpires that men in military uniforms questioned Bradfield, who believed they were British officers, but they were really disguised Sinn Feiners. Loyalists declare that such place them in_a terrible dilemma.- Aue.N.Z. Cable Assn. A PLUCKY DEFENCE. London, Jan. 26. The police and military, motoring fast round a bend in the road between Glencoole and Killenaule, in County Tipperary, found the road entrenched. One motor avoided the trench, the other crashed with terrible force. A fusillade opened upon the occupantn and then followed shouts demanding their surrender. The officer replied: "Down men, come on,” and they lined the ditches and opened with a Lewi* gun. The attackers withdrew. Onh three of the Crown forces escaped scathless. One is dead and • one- in a critical condition. CLAIMS FOR COMPENSATION. ULSTER’S LEADER. London, Jan. 26. One hundred and seventy claims for compensation for malicious injury, involving a quarter of a million sterling, have been listed at the Tipperary sessions, many relating to reprisals. « Two bombs were thrown at a police lorry from a doorway in Usher’s Island, Dublin. All fell behind. A volley was fired by a group of men without result. The police on the other side of the river fired a volley and several men fell. It is repoted that four are dead or bqdly wounded. They were carried by civilians into the labyrinth of courts. Representatives of the Ulster Unionist Council met in London and requested Sir James Craig to become leader of the party. Sir James accepted, subject to the unanimous approval of the full council, which is meeting in Belfast on Friday.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. ARCHBISHGP CLUNE’S MISSION. Rome, Jan. 25. Dr. Clune, Archbishop of Perth, who has just been received by the Pope, is reported to have been called to Rome to study with the Vatican a possible formula for removing differences between Ireland and England.
