RESTRICTIVE LEGISLATION. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright, Washington, Jan. 24, The Senate passed a Bill creating a Live Stock Commission to regulate the meat packing industry. The measure makes unlawful any defrauding practice, such as apportioning the supply of live stock among the packers, unreasonably affecting prices, or creating a monopoly. The packers cannot within two years have any interest in the' stockyards. The packers and stock/ yards must be registered. Three cony missioners will enforce the law, violation s of which will be subject to a finfe of 1000 to 10,000 dollars or imprisonment of from one to five years.—Auw-" N.Z. Cable Assn.
