NEW SCHOOLS.
THE NEED FOR ECONOMY. NEW BUILDING SYSTEM. By Telegraph —Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. At the conclusion of the schoolbuilding conference to-day the delegates thanked Mr. Parr (Minister of Education), and pledged themselves to take into serious consideration the problem of providing school buildings at a more reasonable cost, and also the question whether erection and maintenance should not be carried out by the boards’ staffs. The general feeling of the conference was in favor of adopting the direct labor system.
The Minister expressed the belief that the conference had achieved valuable results. Building schools nowadays was so unsatisfactory that something had to be done. Boards adhering to the contract system had to admit that their procedure required reconsideration and revision.
