A sergeant and a private were killed and seven others wounded in an ambush near Thurles. A lorry with men of the Northampton Regiment came to a sharp turn in I the road, which skirted low hills, and : they suddenly met heavy rifle fire from i the front and flank. Two were killed • instantly. The Northamptons alighted j and exchanged shots until most of the 1 party were wounded.
