THE PARIS CONFERENCE. PROTECTING MR. LLOYD GEORGE. FEAR OF SINN FEIN PLOT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Jan. 24 7.25 p.m. Paris, Jan. 24. Great precautions are being taken to protect Mr. Lloyd George during his visit to Paris. The police suspect Sinn Feiners have come ffbm New York bent on mischief. Large parties of police have been visiting dancing halls and cafes, examining the permits of visitors, while wholesale arrests have been made. Seven hundred suspe’cts are already detained, including many Russians, Poles and Germans sympathising with Sinn Fein. The round-up continues.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn. DISARMING GERMANY. PROPOSAL TO PAY INDEMNITY. Received Jan. 24, 7.25 p.m. Paris, Jan. 24. The first meeting of Mr Lloyd George, Lord Curzon (British Foreign Secretary) and M. Briand (French Premier) was of a most cordial nature, and lasted an hour and a half, in the waiting room at the station. The crowd was also demonstrative in welcoming the British party, which included Sir Maurice Hankey and Sir Worthington Evans. Belgian, Italian and Japanese delegates have also arrived. The Conference opens on Monday morning. German disarmament has first place on the agenda paper, and then reparations. A German delegation, headed by Herr Bergman, is now in Paris, and is anxious to place before the conference a proposal by which two million gold marks will be handed to the Allies, spread over five to six years, one quota being paid in gold and three in goods.—Aus and N.Z.
