THE NEW PALESTINE.

RUSSIAN JEWS ON TREK. LOAN FOR REBUILDING. London, Jan. 5. Sir Alfred Mond, First Commissioner .of Works in the British Cabinet, who will leave for Palestine to-morrow, to discuss the details of the new Palestine loan with Sir Herbert Samuel, High Commissioner, spoke in an interview in most optimistic terms of the future of Palestine. He emphasised the enormous amount of work that is to be done in the country, which must be practically rebuilt. He dwelt on the enthusiasm of the Jews—especially those of Central Europe—for the settlement of Palestine, and said that many were actually walking from the Ukraine and reaching Palestine through Constantinople. The difficulty was to restrain would-be immigrants until the land was prepared for the new population. Sir Alfred Mond stated that he did not anticipate religious difficulties, as there was already a good deal of Arab and Jewish commercial co-operation, and the population would improve as the country advanced. All responsible Jewish leaders were anxious to secure Arab co-operation.
