MAYOR OF CORK.
MUST LEAVE AMERICA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright. Received Jan. 20, 12.15 a.m. Washington, Jan. 19. It is understood that, following a Cabinet meeting at which the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Labor conferred with President Wilson, the President sustained the position taken up by Mr. Davis (Secretary of State) that O’Callaghan must leave the United States. The State Department’s solicitor pointed out that O’Callaghan could not be given a seaman’s standing, since he had no seaman’s certificate for vise.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn. O’Callaghan is the Mayor of Cork, and he recently arrived in New York as a stowaway. The State Department ordered his deportation, and the Labor Department sought to give him a berth as a seaman, but as this would entitle him to return to New York the proposal was not agreed to by the State Department.
