Mr. Poynton has announced that he has further considered the case of Esmonde, and has decided, in view of information just obtained, to refuse to permit him to land in Australia, even if he took the oath of allegiance. —Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn. ESMONDS STILL OBSTINATE. Sydney, Jan. 18. As’Mr. Esmonde continues firm in his determination not to subscribe to the oath of allegiance, he is now marooned and guarded by Customs officials on board the Makura, which has been placed out of commission down the harbor. So far no steps have been taken to test the position legally, and there are no present indications that he intends to depart from by an outgoing Union boat, which he has the option of doing.—Aus.-N.Z.
