THE WOOL MARKET.
RECENT LONDON SALE. LOWER PRICES RECORDED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated the 12th instant, from the High Commissioner, London: “The wool sales commenced yesterday. There was a large attendance, but competition was hesitating, and the demand very restricted. The Government limits are above market values, and the quantity sold was not sufficient to afford a reliable indication of values, but compared with the December rates prices were about Id lower on coarse to 2d on finer grades. This week’s offerings consist of Australian merino, greasy, 13,350 bales; scoured, 2850 bales; crossbred, greasy, 2200 bales; scoured, 1000 bales; New Zealand crossbreds, greasy, 1700 bales; scoured, 1550 bales: sliped, 2700 bales. In addition. 15,350 bales of privately-owned wool will - be offered for sale, of which 7150 bales are Australian, the balance being South American and Cape of Good Hope.”
