Nothing definite resulted at the transport workers’ conference, which adjourned till Thursday. It was suggested that Mr. Hughes should act as mediator at a round table conference. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. THE LIQUOR QUESTION. Sydney, Jan. 13. Mr. Fuller, commenting on the Government attitude towards a liquor referendum, says thi/. the Storey Government stands as the representative of the vested interests of the liquor traffic which, under the conditions in which it is conducted, is productive of much misery, poverty and unhappiness, and fills the gaols, "it is responsible for terrible crimes, breaks up happy homes, and saps the manhood of the land. The Government flouted the law; it should have repealed the Act if there was no intention of giving effect to it. Mr. Hammond predicts a motion 01 censure when Parliament ineets. He ridicules the lack of money excuse, and adds that if the soldiers who defended the country take deferred bonds the people who injured the country should take them. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
