AUCKLAND GAS SERVICE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. In regard to the suggestion of the Auckland Prices Investigation Tribunal, which is in receipt of many complaints from gas consumers oil account of the low pressure in the mains, that it would be preferable if full pressure were given during selected hours of the day and night and a complete cut off during other hours, the manager of the company JMr. J Lowe) has sent a statement to the effect that the company considers the present arrangement lias been made with the object of causing the minimum of unemployment and inconvenience to the public. “If your suggestion were given effect to,” says the communication, “it would only be done by cutting off the present day-time supply to the city. The saving of gas thus effected would enable the full pressure hours (at present 4.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.) to be somewhat lengthened, but it would be a serious deprivation to hospitals and nursing homes, not to mention factories, restaurants and tea rooms, which are chiefly located in the city proper.” MORE SHIPPING TROUBLE, Auckland, Last Night.
