ANTI-JAPANESE HOSTILITY.
FRIENDSHIP ACROSS SEAS. By Telegraph.—Press Asan.—Copyright. New York, Jan. 11. A telegram from Salem, in Oregan, states that Governor Olieott, in a message to the Legislature, said: “Proper legislation should be employed to curb the growth of the Japanese colony in Oregan. The Japanese are a race of high culture, but we cannot assimilate them and they cannot assimilate us. I would live in peace, amity, and concord with them, but it would be a peace of amity and concord which extended the hand of friendship across the sea.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
