GERMANY’S VOLUNTEERS.
' ARMY COUNCIL OPPOSED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Jan. 12. The special correspondent of the Chronicle in Berlin reports that the new volunteer army of 100,000 will consist of twenty-one infantry and eighteen cavalry regiments, and seven independent squadrons, with artillery. The estimated cost is 5,000,000,000 marks yearly. Privates enlist for twelve years and officers for 25 years. The men will beeducated for civil occupations during service.—Aus.-N.Z.- Cable Assn. London, Jan. 12. The Chronicle correspondent says that there will probably be fierce opposition in the Reichstag to the proposal to create an army council appointed by soldiers* votes to act as adviser to the Jfinister.
