AIRMEN QUARREL.

GRIEVOUS MENTAL TORTURES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Ottawa, Jan. 12. Following on the arrival of the United states airmen at Mattiee, a regrettable incident occurred. Lieutenant Hinton, who sent a letter to New York stating that one of his airmen, Lieut. Farrell, offered to die in order that his body should be used to feed the others, was viciously attacked by Lieut. Farrell, who claimed that the incident never occurred. Lieut Hinton’s face was bruised. The three airmen, though apparently physically well, had been suffering grievous mental tortures, and there had been serious bickerings throughout the journey. Lieut. Far’d! alleged that safe landings could have been made, but the others carelessly desired to take a chance and drift as far as possible. The Mattiee incident is arousing most intense interest. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. Received Jan. 14, 12.30 a.m. Washington, Jan. 12. Mr. J. Daniels (Secretary to the Navv) has announced that a naval court •of inquiry will investigate the details of the balloonists’ flight. Many reports have come to Washington intimating that the airmen planned the journey in the hope of realising a considerable sum of money by writing a book of their adventures. —Aus.-N.Z Cable Assir [The airmen left New York in a balloon on December 13, and after being driven north by a gale, landed at a moose factory in James Bay on December 21. with little clothing, every possession being thrown out of the balloon to keep it up.]
