UNEMPLOYED PROBLEM.
SEEKING A SOLUTION. LABOR’S DEFECTION. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received Jan. 13, 8.20 p.m. London, Jan. 13. Correspondence between the Minister of Labor and Mr. Arthur Henderson regarding unemployment shows that the Government desire to secure Labor’s cooperation, and have largely extended the terms of reference to the committee to meet the Labor criticism that the inquiry did not go to the root of the . trouble. I Newspapers consider the refusal to cooperate with the Government is impolitic and unsound. The Daily News adds: “Thus far Labor’s only proposal is that each householder out of work should be given 40s weekly. This demand will present serious financial difficulties when there are three million unemployed.”—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
