Mr. McCallum, secretary of the Disputes Committee, made an offer that the railway strikers would submit the dispute to arbitration in regard to rates if the Government would agree to grant an eight-hour day. The Premier declined, stating that the whole of the matters in dispute were within the jurisdiction of the Arbitration Court, and the Government would not recede from this attitude. ,
