THE MAYOR OF CORK.
FROM NEW YORK. .fiv Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Jan. 12, 12.30 a.m. Washington, Jan. 10. The State Department has announced that it cannot waive the pascport restrictions in the case of Daniel O’Callaghan, t>.e Mayor of Cork, who recently arrived in New York as a stowaway, there being no reason why an exception should be made in the case of the Mayor of Cork. Prominent jurists have announced that they will take the -fight to the United States Supreme Court in an effort to prevent the deporation of O’Callaghan. It is pointed out that the exclusion clause in the immigration laws applies only to diseased or mental incompetents and anarchists. O’Callaghan’s inability to secure a passport is exclusively due to British Government.—Aus.zN,Z. Cable Assn.
