EXCLUSION FROM CALIFORNIA BEQUEST GF THE LEGISLATURE; FLEA FOR UNDERSTANDING* 4 Bj Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright, Received Jan. 12, 12.10 a.m. New York, Jan. 10. The Californian Legislature adopted unanimously a resolution asking that no treaty be made with Japan granting citizenship to Japanese or nullifying the provisions of the anti*Japanese law. Speaking at Cambridge, Massachusetts, Mr. Lamont, head of the American banking group of the Chinese consortium, said that even the perplexing Japanese immigration question was susceptible of amicable settlement if Americans would show a little tact and respect for Japanese-susceptibilities. It would seem certain, with any ingenuity at all, that they should be able to devise formula for meeting the views of California and in a measure satisfying Japan The American people had not an intelligent understanding of the Japanese. “We are apt to eohdemn Japan because the military party is powerful, whereas the people are as peace loving as Americans,” he added.—Aus.-N.Z. <lftbie Assn.
