RACING PERMITS.

INQUIRY REGARDING INCREASE. COMMISSION STARTS WORK. * By Telegraph.—Press Association. - Wellington, Last Night. A meeting of the Commission appointed to make recommendations as to the number and distribution of totalisator permits during next racing season was held in Wellington to-day, Mr. Fred Earle, K.C., presiding. The* returns of the different clubs regarding their applications for permits were presented by the secretary. It 'was resolved that in each of the four principal centres two or three speakers be heard on the general question of the issue of additional permits, and that upon such occasions the proceedings of the commission be open to the Press. The commission has agreed upon the itinerary of the Wellington and Hawke’s Bay districts, and will leave Wellington to-morrow morning for Featherston , and Masterton. It will return to this city on January 19, via the Manawatu.
