LAWN TENNIS.
BANNER AND WILDING CUP. SECURED BY WELLINGTON. The New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association’s banner, which goes to the province securing the most points at the annual tournament, was won this year by Wellington. The destination of the banner depended on the result of the combined doubles championship final. Auckland had scored 3 points as the result of the victory of Mrs. S. C. Hodges ana Miss Marjorie Maefarlane in the ladies’ doubles, while Miss N. E. Curtis, by winning the ladies’ singles, gained 3 points for Wellington. If Mrs. Hodges and P. O’Hara Wood had won the combined doubles the banner would have gone to Auckland for the first time. However, the victory of Miss Curtis Dr. P. E. Allison decided the issue infavor of Wellington. The Wilding Cup, presented last year by M r - -^r-s-8. Wilding, of Christchurch, in memory of the great tennis player, Anthony Wild- ( ing, accompanies the banner.
