LAWN TENNIS.
N.S.W. v. NEW ZEALAND. WIN FOR THE VISITORS. By Telegraph.—Press Association Auckland, Last Night. The match between the New South Wales and New Zealand lawn tennis teams was continued to-day, and resulted in a victory for the visitors by 12 rubbers to 8. The members of both teams were tired after their hard play in the New Zealand championship tournament, but some interesting tennis was nevertheless witnessed. Eight singles matches and six doubles matches were played today, making a total of 12 singles and 8 doubles. Honors in the singles were evenly divided, each team winning six matches, but in the doubles section the visitors lost only two matches. A change was made in the New Zealand team, Dr. Laurenson (Remuera) being iH with influenza, he was replaced by Sims (Hamilton). Results of to-day’s play are as follow, the Australians being given first: •Singles.—N. Peach lost to Sims, 2—6, 2 6; N. Peach beat /Bartleet, 6—-2, 6 —l; Marsh lost to Bartleet, 6—2, 5—7, 3 6; Marsh beat Sims, 2—6, 6—l, 6—4; Gregg beat Allison, 2 —6, 6—3, 6—o; Watt beat Robson, 6 —2, 6—3; Henderson lost to Aitken, 7 —5, 6—B, I—6;1 —6; Peach lost to Wilding, 4—6, 4 —6. Doubles. —Gregg and Henderson beat Bartleet and Sims, B—6,8 —6, 6—l; N. and F. Peach beat Wilding and Aitken, 6 —2, 4 6, 7—5; Gregg and Henderson lost to Robson and Allison, 6—4, '3—6, 4—6; Marsh and Watt beat Robson and Allison, 9—7, 6—3: N. and F. Peach beat Robson and Allison, 10—8, B—6; Marsh and Watt lost to Bartleet and Sims, 6—4, 6—B, 2—6. NEW SOUTH WALES TEAM. TO PLAY TARANAKI-WANGANUI. The Now South Wales tennis team will play a match against a combined Taranaki-Wanganui team at Wanganui on January 14. They leave Auckland to-day for Rotorua and play at Hastings on January 12. Th'e Taranaki Association is at present in communication with the Wanganui Association with regard to the personnel of the team, and this will be announced within the next few days. The Taranaki Association made a request to the New Zealand Council that the match be played at New Plymouth, but this evidently would not fit in with the itinerary mapped out for the North Island
